Welcome Fellow Animal Parents to My Little Bijou World of Pet Care

My Name is Saffra and I am the Founder of Nibbles & Custard Pet Services, Sometimes known locally as ‘The Hog Girl’ because of the hedgehog rescue ‘Hoggywobbles’ I used to run.

 

I’ve Adored animals my whole life so it’s no surprise that I ended up gravitating towards this field of work. My family has owned small pets including rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters for as long as I can remember. I was trimming bunny nails and cleaning out pens by the age of 5 and medicating pets and grooming by the age of 8 by myself. I grew up with long summers spent out in Portugal where I would help on my dad’s parents farm, learning and caring for the animals there- Including goats, chickens, pigs and much more. Chronic illness over the years has hit me hard but caring for animals seems to be the only thing that cheers me on a dark day, something I’m skilled at and something I love. Win Win for Everyone!

 

When I was a teenager – I volunteered at the renowned Shepreth Hedgehog hospital as part of my duke of Edinburgh scheme. I subsequently trained up and worked with various animal rescues (including rabbit and guinea pigs rescues) and then opened up my own home based hedgehog rescue called Hoggywobbles that became well known across England as being a leading rescue in wildlife conservation and education. During my time assisting at the rabbit and guinea pig specialist rescues, I learned how to medicate and care for small critters to the highest standard. I studied small pet nutrition and behaviour as well as dabbling in professionally bonding bunnies (a lot more complicated than it looks). Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with many wonderful animal professionals who have guided me and passed on their wisdom. I have written wildlife articles, done radio talks on helping our native wildlife and written my own animal stories based on my own pet characters that I hope to one day get published. I am an advocate for small animal rights and welfare standards and enjoy passing on my knowledge to fellow pet owners.

 

I decided to make Nibbles & Custard Pet Services official after finding a distinct lack in pet services that had real proper small pet experience, instead of just learning facts from Google and claiming to be an expert. I found no matter who cared for my own bunnies when I was away, they never quite matched my exacting standards. I Knew I could do it better and so my pet service was born. Our motto is Promoting Happy and Healthy tiny VIP'S, with the Highest Welfare Standards, Care and Advice, at the Heart of what we do and love! I hope to be able to fulfill this motto for many years to come and grow our service over time.
